Foreword to the Book of Proceedings
Wroclaw has taken the next evolutionary step in visual and physiological optics meetings. Since its inception, the European Meeting in Physiological Optics organized in Wroclaw, Poland in 1999 and continued in Granada, Spain (2004), London, UK (2006), and Heraklion, Greece (2008) has
gradually evolved to the European Meeting in Visual and Physiological Optics organised in Stockholm, Sweden (2010) and Dublin, Ireland (2012). Throughout that time the support of the European Optical Society (EOS) is acknowledged. The meetings have always enticed a substantial number of non-European non-EOS delegates, particularly from Australia, Latin America and the USA, contributing to the global character of the conference. It was our objective to continue this trend and extend the outreach of the meeting. To achieve this goal, we aimed to organize the 1st World Meeting in Visual and Physiological Optics, a unique meeting that would bring researchers, students, and clinical professionals from allied fields such as optics, ophthalmology, optometry, and vision sciences from all over the world.
We are proud to announce that for VPO14 we have secured a truly World Representation including authors from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Greece, France, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the USA.
Every submitted paper has undergone a rigorous peer review. The review process was tedious and our gratitude goes to the Scientific Committee Board who performed excellent work in a timely fashion.
Wroclaw University of Technology is proud to host VPOptics 2014. We welcome all delegates in the beautiful city of Wroclaw, the historical capital of Silesia, and today the capital of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
